We are already seeing new technologies within the 3D arena that are reshaping industries, brands and occupations. Last year 3D systems introduced into the market their ChefJet series. These are a range of kitchen-ready 3D printers for a range of edible food.
This is just the beginning of a new wave of technologies that will revolutionise the hospitality, catering, restaurant, bakery industries as well as home cooking.
The materials currently come in a variety of flavours and can be made into a number of shapes.
Imagine creating bespoke designed pasta, or pasta that contains infused with spinach that tastes like bubble gum so your kids will eat it. The pasta con come in a range of shapes from rabbits to dinosaurs, right through to Lego shapes. Barilla the global pasta giant is working towards offering customers, cartridges of dough that they can insert into a 3-D printer to create their own pasta designs and shapes.
There are other companies also working on utilizing this technology that will be able to print, ravioli, pizzas, quiches and gnocchi onto a baking dish. From bespoke sugar shapes that adorn a wedding cake through to mind flavoured intricate sugar cubes for your coffee, anything will be possible. As with all new technologies the price isn’t cheap, some models start around USD$5,000 mark while the more advanced models cost around the USD$10,000.
Key Industriess affected:
- Catering companies
- Pastry chefs
- Vitamin industry
- Junk food industry
Given the early stages of this technology and how quickly technology is moving in this arena, it won’t be long until you will be able to produce super nutritious foods for kids that taste like pizza or macaroni.
We will see the introduction of super foods packed with vitamin and antioxidants that look and taste like a burger or fries.
We will witness the growth of homemade 3D created health foods. These foods will be designed to look like burgers, pizza, etc but will contain vitamins, minerals, and antioxidants specifically designed to cater for people with diabetes, heart problems, and high cholesterol. They will look and taste like junk food but they will be good for your body.
